Goodbye Mexico - Hello Guatemala
The boarder crossing was quick and easy, and I changed all of my remaining Pesos for Quetzal's.
You can certainly tell that you have crossed the boarder, the roads a much worse than Mexico, thinner, potholed, and the sides strewn with rocks and boulders that have fallen off the mountains that we are driving through. Almost as bad as the potholed roads are the speed humps that mare the beginning, middle and end of every town, village, and market. because of these conditions it took 6 hrs to cover aprox 100 kms from the boarder to Totonicapan.
There seems to be more motorcycles being ridden here than in Mexico, and the buses are more colourful.
The homestay house is on the outskirts of the town, with a steep climb to get to the house. and I was out of breath when I got to the house, then found we were at 2,300 mtrs. so less oxygen. it is quite basic, the owner Miguel weaves cloth and has done so for 40 years as did his father before him, and his wife is a nurse, it was good to spend a relaxing evening with the family here.
