Coroico

Today in Coroico is a rest day, and there is a town festival on so many locals and visitors from surrounding towns here, but before going into town today I went with a few of the guys on the tour to a local zip line that runs across the valley, I found that this was better that the one in Guatemala as I had better control over it and had more time to look around while flying hundreds of feet above the valley floor.

After that I got dropped of near town and walked to the central square. part of the festival was the blessing of  the cars, which I found a bit of a strange affair. The owners decorate the cars, then a priest blesses the car and throws holy water over the car, wheels and engine, after this a the car & wheels are sprayed with beer or wine, then a shaman walks around the car blessing it, then it is covered in flower petals, and finally firecrackers are let off in front of the car.

Apart from this there is a party atmosphere in town with many families celebrating, and others drinking, and at one stage there was a band with locals dancing going along the streets. The local bus station has been turned into a dance area with live bands playing and last night ended with fireworks at 2am, all of this I can hear from the hotel, but fortunately did not keep me awake.

the last photo is of our hotel and the road that we came in on yesterday.
