I woke this morning to the sound of a fog horn... looking out the window, you wouldn't know that there is a mountain right in front of you, doesn't bode well for my plan to go up the cable car to table mountain.

I had already booked a city tour and then a local township tour, but when the driver turned up I found that I was on my own, so paid for a group tour but ended up having my own private tour. I was right in assuming that there was no point in going up Table mountain as all you would see is cloud, cant change the weather. The tour took me to rich and poor areas, and found out that the unemployment rate was 30% which in part accounts for the number  of homeless people camping on the streets, pretty sad to see. housing here is also very expensive, some very average houses we were passing were selling for more than a million rand.

well kept housing around Bo Kaap  contrasted deeply against the poor housing in the Local Township, I ended the day being dropped off in the V&A Waterfront area where there seems to be always some sort of street entertainment going on today a singing and dancing group next to young men playing chess.

one of the things that concerned me before coming was the reported level of street crime, so far my experience has been no different to other areas I've visited around the world, having said that I am keeping to more controlled areas as there are some areas where you wouldn't wander around which is the same in many countries. Also like most countries there is a large drug issue here, which is noticeable, but one thing that is pleasing to see is the high level of policing, especially in the tourist areas.
