I woke up today listening to the sound of water running down the Orange river in Namibia.
Although we have travelled on dirt for the last 2 days, today we were told that there willbe some sandy patches.
Today we were riding past lush vineyards and through wide open landscapes towards the Fish River Canyon - second only to the Grand Canyon in size.
By lunchtime we are at Fish River Canyon having traveled over 150km of dirt I have found that the roads are mixed gravel and sand. Having listened to our guides we are riding in a manner where we are putting more weight onto the back end and accelerating through the sand. Counter to the feeling that you should go slowly through this terrain, speed is actually your friend keeping the front wheel high and gliding over the sand and not digging in.
We take a short detour to take it all in, then a short ride to our overnight stop at the Canyon Roadhouse.
