11 MAY - DAY 3 NAMAQUALAND TO ORANGE RIVER 465 km

Breakfast today was at an old homestead in the middle of nowhere, 3 course full-on meal. So I won't need lunch today. Then we continue on reasonably good dirt roads travelling at good speed depending on the conditions. Once off the dirt we are making good time today which is good as it's a long ride to the crossing into Namibia. The max speed limit is 120kph, but we are averaging between 130-140kph on these good highway roads with almost no traffic.

The stop signs can be confusing as almost nobody stops, and there are stop signs on every road at a crossroads.

once on the bitumen our ride then took us through some local canyons carved out by ancient glaciers, and then ride down the very beautiful Vanrhyns Pass, the views are stunning and the vastness of South Africa is apparent from the top with fields and bush in the valley below and mountains in the distance. We then head north through some beautiful semi-desert landscapes in the Northern Cape before crossing the border into Namibia and arriving at our overnight stop at Provenance Camp on the banks of the Orange River.
