Varanassi, some times its so quite that you think that yoou are in some exotic location with just a few locals, but other times its a seething mass of humanity all worshiping something.
My morning started at 5am with chanting from outside, then a boat ride to see the sunrise, which ended up as being an orange blob due to the smoggy conditions. but where else would you want to be but traveling up & down the Ganges watching the going on on the riverbank. Picked up a local guide for just a few dollars and he has shwon me around, kept me out of trouble, and being a local negotiates better prices than I could.
It felt a bit surreal sitting in a shop, in a narrow allyway, eating a local fruit Lassi made with yoghut thats made in the shop, with funeral processions going by taking bodies to the burning ghat.
I usually enjoy going to forts, but the Ramnagar Fort was a bit dissapointing, fairly run down, with some of the displays ready to fall apart. some great armoury & wepons, but left uncared for will surely deteriorate further.
