23 Mar - into Bhutan, Phuntsholing - Paro
We leave Phuntsholing and quickly rise above the town, within the hour we are twisting our way through the clouds, this way into Bhutan it is all up-hill into the Himalayas. The road is good and passes through different vegetation, farms & villages, constantly weaving into the mountains. There is big hydro-electricity power stations on the way, which is the biggest export from Bhutan. We also go through Chapcha pass (3000 meters), today's ride took about 7 hrs to cover 230km, overnight at Jigmeling Hotel in Paro which is at 2300 meters
Bhutan is an interesting and colourful country, many people wearing traditional dress, and most of the buildings are decorated, quite a different country to any I've been in so far. The people are friendly, no pressure from the shopkeepers, and so far I have not seen any beggars or destitute people on the streets.
24 Mar Paro - Thimphu
Unfortunately for me I was sick as a dog overnight, so didn't go up to the Tigers Nest this morning, a short 80 ride takes us to Thimphu. I'll rest up tonight and hopefully I'll be ok tomorrow.
